• Painting Expressive Spring Views

    Slow River Studio

    Topsfield, MA

    April 20 + 21, 2024

The new foliage of April creates lots of vibrant greens and yellows, but also soft muted browns and greys as New England thaws out after winter.  Early spring is a great time to paint!

This two day workshop with Amy Brnger will focus on painting the light and color of early spring landscapes. You will focus on finding major shapes in your compositions, ignoring unnecessary details, using your brush energy to reflect the changing landscape and light, and exploring the possibilities of color using a split primary palette.

    9-4, Sat + Sun

    Cost $425

For more information and to register, contact Slow River Studio.

  • Plein Air Painting Workshop, Mount Desert Island!

    Mount Desert Island (Somesville)

    June 6-8 2024

Hosted by the Gallery at Somes Sound, paint en plein air with Amy on stunning Mount Desert Island in Maine. Each day we will paint in a different location. Amy will demo in oil but painters/pastel/oil stick artists are welcome.

Some experience is necessary (ie, being able to set up your easel, basic knowledge of painting and materials). You do not need to be an experienced en plein air painter; Amy will acquaint you with her painting process via demos and help you achieve your own unique paintings with lots of feedback and encouragement.

    9-4 Thursday through Saturday

  • Capturing the Light, Interior Workshop-Completed

Jackson Art Studio and Gallery, Jackson, NH

    February 17-18, 2024

In this two day workshop, Amy teaches painters how to emphasize the light in an interior, regardless of the room you choose to paint.  Whether subdued or spectacularly lit, light directs the viewer to a particular space in a room or an object, and has the ability to create an emotional response, as the interior generally stimulates memories of season, time of day, or feelings about a particular space in a home.  Second, Amy will also approach the interior using an alla prima painting style; a single session painting.  Alla prima painting encourages a spontaneous approach to paint, the brush, and the paint surface.Participants in last year’s interior workshop can expect to take their work to a more advanced level, but new participants are very welcome to attend as well. Please bring printed images of images from your favorite spaces.  Take photos in which strong light and shadow are present.  Amy will send participants examples of spaces prior to the workshop.

    Saturday & Sunday, Feb 17 & 18, 10am-4pm,  $365
