2025 Travel Workshop in France

Perigord Retreat, Perigord, France

September 23-October 2, 2025

Join Amy at Perigord Retreat in Perigord, France for eight days of landscape and flower painting, as well as taking daily excursions within the region.

This workshop will combine the best of both worlds during late September in Southwestern France.  Participants will paint flowers and landscape inside and out.  Amy is very experienced at teaching an alla prima, all at once, method of painting, which translates and pairs perfectly to en plein air painting outside.  Should the weather require inside painting time, Amy will arrange flowers and participants can paint still life, incorporating interiors and windows with the florals.

Amy’s approach to painting is direct, loose, and expressive.  She teaches painters how to mix bright, saturated colors, but also how to temper them with related neutrals.  Amy provides working demonstrations in oil, although participants can work with water-based paint or oil sticks. If you would like to learn to work more expressively, spontaneously, and enjoy the actual experience of painting, this is a travel workshop for you.

Perigord Retreat is owned and family run (Harrison and Katel), located on the border of Perigord and Quercy. Lovely views, wonderful food made by Katel and excursions for us, organized by Harrison, when we are not painting.

Daily schedule TBA, but expect to alternate painting full days (two sessions a day) and every other day a single session with a short excursion to local villages, hosted by Perigord Retreat.  We have eight days together, so we will get plenty of painting time! Weather dependent, our sessions will be outdoors, but can easily flex to indoor painting in their art studio if it is rainy or excessively warm.

The workshop fee includes lodging, excellent food and beverage (two lunches and dinners on your own), paint instruction, and excursions to nearby villages.  The train station is minutes from the retreat and you will be picked up and dropped off when you arrive and leave.  Participants are responsible for transportation costs to France and to the train station in Gourdon. The Paris-Gourdon train ride is approximately five hours, so you will want to plan your trip accordingly.  Harrison will pick you up and bring you to the retreat and, ten days later, bring you back to the station.  In between these dates, Harrison and Katel will take care of what we need.
